Match #60: Ric Flair vs. Rick Martel (10/21/85) This is a very rare occasion where the NWA World Heavyweight champion (Flair) takes on the AWA World Heavyweight Champion (Martel). This has a lot of potential and we’ll assume nothing near a clean finish. Let’s see if they can still pull it off.
Match #51: Genichiro Tenryu vs. Ric Flair (2/3 Falls) (9/12/84) Flair, again the world heavyweight champion, takes on the native #2 in another 2/3 falls NWA title match.
Match #46: Ric Flair vs. Kerry Von Erich (5/24/84) This is only weeks after Kerry won the NWA title from Flair in an emotional Texas Stadium match from World Class. Flair came to Japan to get his belt back.
Match #44: Harley Race vs. Ric Flair (5/22/84) I’m excited for a Flair match and apprehensive of Race as the opponent. This could end with my low expectations being pleasantly surprised, or me very sick of Race.
Match #33: Jumbo Tsuruta vs. Ric Flair (6/8/83) The third match on the set from these two, who have produced two great matches so far. A brilliant 2/3 falls NWA title match coming up after the jump.
Match #21: Jumbo Tsuruta vs. Ric Flair (6/8/82) Huge Tsuruta chant before the opening bell. Jumbo picks Flair up early and places him on the top turnbuckle, and pretty much wins all the early exchanges, controls the match. Flair never looks bad though.
Match #20: Ric Flair vs. Ric Steamboat (6/4/82) This amounts to a mid level Flair/Steamboat dance, even with the NWA title, and I felt like they were on cruise control. Don’t get me wrong, it was still quick and crip and felt so modern. They are so scary good that it’s still a hell of [...]
Match #14: Ric Flair vs. Jumbo Tsuruta (2/3 falls) (10/9/81) The great Ric Flair takes the NWA title to Japan for a defense against Jumbo.
Match #86: Kevin Von Erich vs. Ric Flair (5/5/85) Flair has yet another World Title defense against a Von Erich at Texas Stadium.
Match #80: Ric Flair vs. Terry Gordy (1/11/85) The rematch from the February ’83 match, with a much more experienced Gordy against the real world’s champion.
Match # 58: Ric Flair vs. Kerry Von Erich (5/11/84) The rematch of not only the World title change from week before, but a match up that’s produced top ten matches in World Class as well as Mid South. Flair attempts to take his title back.
Match #56: Ric Flair vs. Kerry Von Erich (5/6/84) Paying tribute to his recently deceased brother, David, Kerry Von Erich seeks to take his place and win the World Heavyweight Championship from Ric Flair in front of 30,000 fans at Texas Stadium.
Match # 48: Ric Flair vs. Chris Adams (2/3/84) Hell yes, special guest star Ric Flair is back in Texas with his World Title, defending against fan favorite, American Title holder, and keeper of Sunshine—Chris Adams. High expectations for this cloud my otherwise rational brain.
Match # 13: Ric Flair vs. Kevin Von Erich (4/1/83) I cherish all the 80s Flair I can get considering the way he embarrasses himself every week on TNA. From Mid South to Memphis, Flair rules the Diaries series, and once again we get a Flair versus Von Erich match, this time against the oldest, [...]
Match # 9: Ric Flair vs. Terry Gordy (2/4/83) We start where we always should, with Ric Flair cutting an arrogant, controlled promo to Bill Mercer about his match, his life, and being the champ. Gordy and Hayes cut promos on Flair that are pretty impressive. An odd, but interesting heel versus heel dynamic.
Match # 7: Ric Flair vs. Kerry Von Erich (Cage Match) (12/25/82) This match is well-known enough I won’t give any hype or go over anything until after the jump. Just know this match is famous for a lot of reasons.
Match # 3: Ric Flair vs. David Von Erich (10/11/82) Flair faces David after just squeaking past Kerry two months before. This is my first time putting David under the microscope, and it’s a World Title match. Anything from Flair in the 1980s is worth a strong look.
Match # 2: Ric Flair vs. Kerry Von Erich (2/3 falls) (8/15/82) A big Diaries with a lot to cover. There’s a whole bunch of recommended lead up to this match I’ve got to watch to get the full effect. I’ll detail it here along with the match itself, which should be awesome. It’s Flair [...]
Match # 153: Sting vs. Ric Flair (Nitro 3/26/01) And so we reach the end in an appropriate manner. They wrestled on the first Nitro, and they wrestle on the last. Before we begin the reassessment of the top 30 Nitro matches with MFP (My Friend Paul), we give some slack to Flair and Sting [...]
Match # 138: Ric Flair vs. Jeff Jarrett (Nitro 5/29/00) Oh good, a rematch of our # 139 match, because we weren’t tortured enough the first time. I hope this is a straight up wrestling match, though I have a feeling it’s gonna involve run-ins and ref bumps.
