Match # 149: Chavo Guerrero vs. Crowbar (Nitro 1/15/01)

I have no idea why this is on the ballot. It may be a goofy brawl gimmick someone remembered fondly from years back. It may have been a cruiserweight style match with two second or third tier guys that people felt was over looked. Maybe someone’s a Guerreros mark. I don’t know.

Crowbar is back to being a semi-crazy guy in jeans. Daffney, the screamer, is with him again. Works for me, she’s cute. Right away they establish this is for the cruiserweight title, and give you a hot start. All the things I like. Some pace, urgency, and smooth style. Chavo looks like a million bucks. It’s like a poor man’s rey Jr. match. Crowbar is a good base for the flying going on, in the ring and outside.

Crowbar catches Chavo for an impressive Death Valley Driver. A great missed spot as Crowbar fails on a top rope rana attempt, but then tosses off Chavo going for the swining DDT. Really exciting, and the crowd is engaged. Crowbar pulls out one of the prettiest North Lights Suplexes you’ll see. I’m really liking the way this flows, even if they don’t slow it down. It’s been an excellent semi-sprint. There’s enough space to where they aren’t mindlessly doing moves. Crowbar gets a chair, but they knock it as a mistake in commentary, and it comes back to bite him in a contrived spot. Chavo wins with the brainbuster in seven minutes. 2 ¾ and 6/10.
