Brian will be sending in results tonight and tomorrow night. We’ll have updates after each hour taped.

Jim Cornette opened the night with a promo. This set of tapings will feature a Pick Six contenders series. Each hour will have a one-on-one match with the winner receiving $2500 and becoming eligible for a title shot. Tonight’s ROH World Championship match will be a four-way match with Austin Aries defending against Roderick Strong, Davey Richards, and Kenny Omega. Brian guessed that this promo and the last two matches taped will be the first HDNet episode.

1) Delirious defeated Kenny King with a crucifix. This was the first Pick Six match. Fun match.

2) Steve Corino lost to a would-be jobber by forfeit. Corino refused the match, so it was awarded to his opponent, who he then beat up.

3) Erick Stevens won a squash match

4) Tyler Black defeated Sonjay Dutt. Tyler won the first-hour main event and the second Pick Six contest with God’s Last Gift.

5) Chris Hero defeated Kyle O’Reilly

6) Necro Butcher defeated Joey Ryan by disqualification. Ryan was caught throwing powder in Necro’s face.

7) Colt Cabana defeated Claudio Castagnoli. Colt scored the win with a roll-up to wrap up the second hour and earn $2500 and contender status.

8 ) The Briscoes defeated El Generico & Kevin Steen. The match was for a tag title shot at Final Battle. Mark may have injured his knee. The Briscoes won when Jay hit a Jay Driller on Steen and Mark pinned him.

9) Austin Aries defeated Davey Richards, Roderick Strong, and Kenny Omega to retain the ROH World Championship. Very good, action packed title match. The end featured a long strecth with Richards and Strong alone in the ring. Strong eventually got the best of it and hit a big move on Richards, but Aries snuck in and stole the pin.

Tomorrow’s Pick Six matches will include Richards vs. Strong and Jay Briscoe vs. Mark Briscoe.

  1. Brian Streleckis Says:

Fun, hassle-free night. No white paper flyers on the seats, therefore none getting balled up and thrown into the ring. No timebomb idiots either. Pre-show matches weren’t much at all; biggest one was Bobby Dempsey & Grizzly Redwood defeating John Kermon (in new gear) & Andy Ridge (in Kermon’s old gear for some reason).

Cornette was good in the opening segment. I unfortunately can’t remember the sixth match he mentioned for the Pick Six Contenders Series (I don’t believe it was Hero-Omega, as I didn’t hear their names mentioned here), but we’ll find out tomorrow.

Delirious was sporting a shinier version of his usual mask. Former faux-lovers Daizee Haze and Rhett Titus were in corners of Delirious and Kenny King respectively and got involved, including Daizee hitting Rhett with a clothesline. A very fun opener. Delirious was looking good and broke out a couple new tricks and also played into a ringside fan wearing a Liger mask.

The Corino segment was pretty weird with the usual Corino smarminess. He came out in street clothes and said he wanted to make an impact, but he wasn’t going to do it against his opponent here (Lance Lude, the little guy in The Set). Corino put him over as a nice, respectful guy while still burying him, then asked for the DQ or forfeit loss and got his wish. Corino then jokingly called it a 5-star match and said he and Lude should take the act on the circuit, but then laid him out with a Beach Break-type move and a sliding lariat. He’s still waiting to make that big impact and declared himself “Mr. Ratings.”

Stevens has lost the mohawk again and is back to a regular head of hair. Perhaps for the winter months?

Black-Dutt was good stuff, building well to the finishing sequence.

An introduction for Hero by Shane Hagadorn opened the second hour. Hero complained about not being among the 12 guys in Pick Six because he’s the best athlete on the roster. Claudio came out and argued with them, then Cornette came out to break it up (“You’re givin’ off more static than a $2 iPod!”). He then booked Hero against O’Reilly in what was fairly more competitive and longer than a typical squash match. O’Reilly kicked out of some things and hit a couple moves, including a tornado DDT, before succumbing to a non-loaded elbow strike.

Necro-Joey was perversely fun. Necro came out with a haircut, swinging around a traffic cone. Ernesto Osiris looked like a Miami hustler. Necro threw Joey into the crowd a couple times, including by me (bending a chair in the process), and even grabbed one of the cameras and did some first-person punching. The powder spot was ludicrous and made me laugh pretty hard. Erick Stevens of all people made the save for Necro.

Cabana-Claudio was fine, and the last two matches were very good. Mark looked very injured, and Steen looked pretty distraught post-match, brushing off Generico and the cameras. Davey was over HUGE tonight. After the four-way, Aries posed with the title mid-ring as a spotlight shone on him, but then the spotlight shut off and Black entered in a very dramatic fashion, giving the impression that this will be his return segment to TV (airing before the match with Dutt). He fought with Aries, chased him off, and celebrated mid-ring. The end.

Next set of TV tapings after this will be in January.
