Match # 130: La Parka/Silver King vs. Damian/Ciclope (Mexican Hardcore Match) (Nitro 6/7/99)
La Parka rules, especially with the pro get-up he wears to the ring now that he’s had a few big contract years in WCW. Silver King, never got the love that Dave Meltzer and others put on him. On the other side we got Damian, who I always felt fit well with hardcore wrestling, and Ciclope, a name I don’t like to type and a wrestler I nary have an opinion on.
This is falls count anywhere, and a hardcore match, showing once again the influence that little ECW had on big WCW. They start with well worked out but somewhat over planned weapon shot spots. This is fairly crazy stuff as they mix in athletic Lucha flying with the garbage spots, but the crowd takes it either as a joke, or is apathetic to it. I go back and forth between impressed and not caring. The not caring usually happens in the time it takes to set up the contrived spots, but the more innovative ones catch my eyes – and attention. These poor guys are taking some crazy shots, many unnecessary, while the announcers make somewhat of a mockery of these guys, mildly racist. I’ll admit its overkill on the shots and dives, but these guys deserve some respect. La Parka is the only one that seems to get a decent reaction, if mild. This keeps going and registers nothing. I’ve tuned out after the umpteenth shot, and that’s before they got to the tables. I pop back in to see Damian kick out of the pin after the table spot. Screw this match. 2 stars and 4/10.
