Match # 60: The Villanos vs. Hector Garza and Juventud Guerrera (Nitro 7/7/97)
All these years and I still know very little about the Villanos. I know it’s pronounced with a silent L (Vee-on-os), and I know they are a famous wrestling family in Mexico, but I don’t know much else. This is Villanos IV and V. Garza and Juvy are well known, though Juvy is the most famous in America out of the four. Lucha fun comes now.
The Villanos have barrel chests and look like generic luchadores, but I guess they can’t all be great masks. Roling arm bar near the start is pretty. But then the Villanos telegraphs all his bumps and overall looks lazy. Garza does his best to create movement and keep the match flowing. Whichever Villanos gets in with Juvy is the one that can go. He looks good, and juvy is sharp tonight. Lots of chained together high spot stuff (though I guess to them it’s not high spots).
Villanos work well together to gain the advantage. Nice heel tag team moves. Garza does drop kicks for the hell of it, doesn’t he? Juvy does a flying leg that sends him over the top rope. He does it again and the Villanos catch him. It’s getting a bit too spotty for me. Juvy does a dive to the floor to cap off a bunch of tag team moves from the faces that weren’t as crisp as the heel double-teams. For anyone who says this is great Lucha, at this point, I don’t doubt it. I simply can’t see a structure anymore. Then again, some of my favorite ECW matches would be struck down by people who don’t get that style. Juvy wins with a summersault press from the top in 6:30. 2 ½ and 5/10.
