Match # 52: Rey Mysterio Jr. vs. Juventud Guerrera (Nitro 2/24/97)

This is some Lucha-done-right early. Too bad the crowd could care less live. Guess they were all waiting for the NWO to come out.

Mysterio pulls off a stellar tilt-a-whirl head scissors in this, just lightening quick. He follows with a baseball slide version to the outside. These guys are hitting their stuff tonight, and quickly, which is the only Lucha I can connect with. Juvy hits a power bomb reversal from the top and follows with a suicide dive. The match really flows and seems to have a good progression. I’m more captured by this then some of the other Lucha on the set so far. Rey Jr. catches a springboard and turns it into a power bomb, and we finish up with his own springboard rana into the pin. One of the best under 7 minute matches you’ll ever see. Hard for me to rate it to high because it had only a small story and drama, but as for moves and progression, this had it big time. 3 ¼ and 7/10.
