Memphis Diaries: Match # 122

Match # 122: Robert Fuller & Jimmy Golden vs. Jed Grundy & Scott Steiner (2/18/89)
This is a CWA tag title match from the studio show. Dave Brown and Lance Russell on commentary. Grundy is just a fat hillbilly in overalls who plays babyface big man. The heels make it easy for him to look good early. Hide the weakness and accentuate the strengths, right? Fun stuff.
It’s amazing how much shorter Scott Steiner looks when he;s not juiced up. He’s a big strong guy, but he looks nothing like he would in WCW/WWE just a few years later. You can see the good amateur work that made him a pretty great wrestler in the early 90s.
This is really slow paced and old school, and while it’s not bad (little on the set is bad), it’s kinda losing my interest by the six minute mark. Steiner gets a roll up pin, gets powder in the face from a valet, and gets pinned before the 7 minute mark.
But wait! The ref saw the giant powder cloud and restarted the match. Steiner pins Jimmy Golden for the pin a moment later. 2 ½ and 5/10.
