Memphis Diaries: Match # 53

Match # 53: Bill Dundee vs. Tommy Rogers (11/7/83) [EWY-14]
This is some nonsense title match up. It’s a junior belt that every fed had. What’s more important is the match up, which looks good on paper.
Dundee is your heel here, stalling at every opportunity and losing exchanges early. They do okay, but my problem with Rogers is he has no solid flow to the moves he does. Everything seems like he’s waiting/anticipating the final move in an exchange. From his wrestling to his personality, he’s good but not sincere. Still, some good action from both men.
Dundee no-sells an awesome side suplex at 5 minutes in and goes on offense. I’m puzzled. Later, Rogers catches Bill in a sleeper. Dundee works his way to an advantage, cocky as hell. I like the story, it’s just uninspired much of the time.
Dundee’s heel moves and posturing are major league, but his opponent is vanilla. Dundee wins with a low knee and roll up. He’s the new Junior Heavyweight Champion of some where. The match was there, but did get better over time. 2 ¼ and 4/10.
