Memphis Diaries: Match # 48

Match # 48: Bill Dundee vs. Assassin #1 (9/25/83) [EWY-9]
No idea who Assassin # 1 is, but you gotta love the generic wrestler gimmick in Memphis. For the record this is outside of the studio or the Coliseum. This is a spot show somewhere with a lively crowd. We start off clipped already in the ring with Dundee clamping a hold on the Assassin. Dundee has a great power slam at one point and also does the famed “chain in the tights” thing while trying to KO his opponent with punches.
Here’s where it gets odd. Someone actually throws a real chain to Dundee from the outside. So he hits the Assassin with it. But Assassin # 1 doesn’t wanna sell much. Hell yes – Dundee is getting the chain and throwing it back when checked, from a fan. He’s also chasing Jimmy Hart, who is in the heel corner of EVERY match I see on this set. It’s getting annoying.
Dundee sells for a few minutes which is all solid stuff, but not nearly as exciting as the chain play. Assassin # 1 is a big guy though, and Dundee bumps huge for some back body drops. The agility of Assassin is pretty decent too.
Dundee wins by DQ in nine and a half minutes when the other Assassin runs in. Lame finish, but Dundee blades big for some reason. Lawler comes out to save him as apparently since Dundee came back from his time off (lost Loser Leaves Town match to Lawler) he’s been trying to reform their team. This match was more of a memorable moment or fond memory then a good or meaningful match. 2 ½ and 5/10.
