Match # 31: Jackie Fargo vs. Jimmy Hart (11/8/82)

Fargo was the King of Memphis before Lawler and was a huge star in the territory. He’d retired by this point, coming back here and there as a famed LEGEND. Hart is a manager and a consummate heel, so this was a sports entertainment booking.

The beginning is crazy. Stan Lane and Steve Keirn (the Fabs) are out with Fargo. There’s powder being thrown. Hart’s henchmen (The First Family) try to attack. Somewhere in there Jackie Fargo has a strap and whips ass! That’s all topped off by the famed Fargo strut. And that’s just the first 30 seconds.

Fargo looks like Wahoo McDaniel when he got old. He wears a singlet and doesn’t look like a WWE “legend”, which is probably why he’s still alive today. Match is designed for Hart to try every little trick in the book because as a skinny manager he still can’t take out the once great Fargo one-on-one. Fargo has a lot of personality and makes the match a lot of fun with his histrionics. Hart is the perfect chicken shit heel to feed the showman. Think of this as the best possible version of McMahon family member vs non-wrestler Sports Entertainment. Anytime the heels try to outnumber him (Eaton & SBS), Lane and Keirn come in for the save. They even get “tagged in” in a comedy spot. A lot of comedy here.

This one was almost worth it just to hear how much fun it was for Lance Russell to call it. Fargo wins with an atomic drop and a good bump before the pin from Hart. 2 stars and 3/10.
