Match # 76: The Fantastics vs. Dutch Mantell & Bill Dundee (10/4/85)

Another match built off the last disk. Match # 74 featured these same teams with the stip that the losers got whipped. The heels lost, but ended up taking very few lashes. Instead, Dundee whipped the Fantastics. So while the faces won, they didn’t get the pay off and the Dundee/Mantell team got their heat back. Here’s a TV re-match with Mantell’s whip on a pole.

Dundee and Rogers. Dundee is so great. He just shoves Rogers and bolts for the poll. Christ, they are both up at the pole already and that whip is way up there. Dundee goes down with a big bump, but it’s a tease as Mantell smacks Rogers down.

Mantell in and both faces beat him to the punch, but can’t get up the pole. Very good intensity and bumps, probably because they know this TV match isn’t going long. Everyone is going for the whip.
Mantell’s whip is called “Shoe Baby”, for those wondering. Bobby Futon still doesn’t do much, but Dundee sells and cleverly entertains for both of them. A lot of great efforts every ten seconds or so of all four men in different combos going for the strap, but being pulled down.

All four men start brawling and Eddie Gilbert rushes in and climbs the pole! Karl Fergie seems completely disinterested in the heel manager, but he calls for the bell. It’s a DQ. The Fantasics at first whip Mantell, but Eddie Gilbert throws powder (he’s so Memphis) and Mantell whips Bobby Fulton. Fun while it lasted, but not much to it. 2 ¼ and 4/10.
