The eventual Joe-Misawa match was definitely something I sensed would be the blowoff to the angle, based on rumblings made by friends. Definitely should have been mentioned when discussing the angle. Cue airhorn of shame ::WAH-WAH::

Good points. I remember thinking at the time that they had to be building to that match. I did see their NOAH match and thought it was alright, but nothing special, and probably not the match Joe had been waiting pretty much his whole career for.

I'm about 10 minutes in. Wanted to make a note of agreement as far as other things that would have been done. First off, Joe was the franchise player. They were "holding him back", as you guy mentioned, because at times his reign loomed larger than everyone other than Danielson (and that was played into their title feud).

But in addition to being able to do more with Morishima had he stayed, there was also a good fued with Nigel to be had with him playing a gate keeper to the title in essence. There is also title matches with the old champ. There were new angles we can only book in pretend land (a truce and super group with Briscoes or even an uneasy alliance with Danielson are just two ideas).

The big one we've all left out is they were building to Joe taking on Misawa at the Glory By Honor show in Nov. where KENTA ended up getting the match. Joe, as coincidence would have it, did get a big match with Misawa a week before he came to ROH. Thankfully it stayed in Asia is all I can say, though different results/effort could always happen in a rematch.
