Brian is in the building and we have contact. The next Philadelphia show will be on June 7th. John says that it’s a pretty full crowd as the show is starting and estimates an attendance of 1100-1300.
1) Davey Richards defeats Dingo Non-PPV match to open the show. Richards wins with a tombstone and the Kimura lock. Very good back and forth action with Dingo looking impressive.
2) Sara Del Rey defeats Kylie Pierce Sara gets a babyface reaction and wins a quick match with a kick to the head.
Dave Prazak and Lenny Leonard introduce the PPV from John & Brian’s section of the crowd. It appears that the name of the PPV is “Take No Prisoners.” Each guy in the opening match cut a brief promo in the ring.
3) Four Corner Survival: Tyler Black defeats Delirious, Claudio Castagnoli, and Go Shiozaki As we predicted on last week’s BS With Honor, the PPV opens with this match in which the winner receives a title shot against Nigel McGuinness later tonight. Delirious and Claudio start the match with some comedy. Things get serious from there and it’s solid action the rest of the way. Black gets the surprise win with a Phoenix Splash on Delirious and gets a light “Next world champ” chant. John rates the match ***1/4.
4) Kevin Steen defeats Roderick Strong Brian says they’re really going at it like bulls early. Steen wins with the Package Piledriver. “Good stuff.” John adds that it was very good and built well. Some slow spots, but the crowd stayed with it and Steen was over as a babyface and had some fun verbal exchanges with the crowd. ***1/2
5) Jigsaw & Ruckus defeat Adam Pearce & BJ Whitmer Non-PPV match features the Hangmen getting heat with a long beat-down on Jigsaw. The Vulture Squad make the comeback and Jigsaw scores the win. John calls it surprisingly good and rates it ***1/4.
Eddie Kingston is at ringside along with Sabian and Robbie Minero of his BLK OUT faction and the crowd chants his name after the match. They gets into a brief brawl with the Vulture Squad and security separates them.
6) Jay & Mark Briscoe defeat Joey Matthews & Necro Butcher in a No-DQ Street Fight Starts out as a wild brawl in the crowd. Mark suffers a big gash on the side of his head early. The Briscoes are the most over act on the show so far. John calls it a “hit and miss big spot garbage match.” Mark hits a dive (not a Shooting Star Press) off the entrance onto Necro. Lacey and Daizee Haze fought during the match. Jay wins it with a Jay Driller on Matthews onto a chair. Matthews gets applause for his efforts after the match.
Intermission
7) Bushwhacker Luke defeats Shane Hagadorn John calls the non-PPV popcorn match “horrible and slow and too long.” They didn’t do as much comedy as they should have done or you’d expect.
Larry Sweeney comes out for debut of The Larry Sweeney Show Starring Larry Sweeney. After making overtures towards each of the Hangmen Three in Dover, he calls out the entire faction, and they join Sweet & Sour Inc. Brent Albright looks pissed. Erick Stevens comes out for a match against Albright. There were no references to the controversial angle from the last set of shows. The segment wasn’t over with the crowd.
8 ) Brent Albright defeats Erick Stevens Better than expected power match that builds nicely as it goes. Albright wins with the half nelson suplex after Stevens is distracted by Sweeney. **3/4
After the match, BJ Whitmer indicates that he wants out fo the merged faction and headbutts Sweeney. Adam Pearce & Shane Hagadorn attack Whitmer and give him a spike piledriver. Albright reluctantly stays with the group.
9) Bryan Danielson defeats Austin Aries Awesome match. Mat work early on leads to Danielson selling the back. He then gets the advantage and works over Aries’ arm. Very high impact style with lots of reversals. The crowd is into it but it’s not a totally crazy atmosphere. Towards the end, each guy went for their finishers and there were a lot of reversals, which the crowd liked a lot. Danielson gets the tap-out win with an arm bar. John rates it ****.
10) Nigel McGuinness defeats Tyler Black to retain the ROH World Championship John says the match was designed to “make” Black. He did a dive out of the ring, but Nigel blocked it with a chair and Black sold it for a long time. At this point, the crowd really got behind him and he was over like a big star, whereas they were more anti-Nigel and pro-Black prior to that. Lots of near falls, to the point of overkill, but it was a good match and the finishing sequence elevated it from a little under four stars to a little over. Nigel wins with his modified overhand wrist lock finisher and cuts a brief promo after declining to shake Black’s hand.
