Ted Petty Invitational 2007 Night 1
Midlothian , IL
September 28, 2007
Report by Robert Dolezil

The first thing I notice is that for the first time I know of, IWA-MS
has guard rails and an entrance set up.

EVERY MATCH IS A FIRST ROUND MATCH

Right after all the members of the tournament were introduced, Taylor
started attacking Jacobs and hit an Omega driver on him. Taylor fled.
After recovering Jacobs said that Taylor wasn’t shit until he beats
Jimmy Jacobs, and that Taylor is just a Jimmy Jacobs 2005 wannabe.

1. Josh Abercrombie submitted Ricochet in 8:28. Funny moment during
Abercrombie’s entrance, one of Abercrombie’s fans had like a huge 5
foot wide mustache he made and brought to the event. Everyone popped big
for it, and Abercrombie went up to it and stroked it. This was a decent
but short match. The finish saw Abercrombie hit a top rope Taliban
Back Pack on Ricochet and then lock him in what looked like Delirious’
Cobra Stretch for the tap out.

2. Joker pinned CJ Otis in 5:05. This match was very short and that
disappointed as I like both guys a lot. Good strong style match while it
lasted, lots of chops and some no selling of German Suplexes. Joker won
with a power bomb.

3. Human Tornado pinned Eddie Kingston in 9:13. Good match. Tornado did
his spot where he dances and kicks Kingston in the face in the
turnbuckle, it was extra funny because ref Bryce Remsburg was doing hand
gestures to the same rhythm that Tornado was kicking. Tornado would get the
pin after a leg capture move where he threw Kingston over head and
Kingston landed on his stomach.

After the match Chris Hero grabbed a mic and started taunting Kingston
for losing. Brawling ensued. Eventually a Last Man Standing match
between these two for Night 2.

4. Davey Richards submitted BJ Whitmer in 14:13. Good match. Good
action, not really heated or anything and BJ didn’t hit many of his
signature spots (no exploders, no combo of vertical suplex, dragon suplex).
Davey would eventually lock on a kimura for the win.

5. Devon Moore pinned Dysfunction in 5:10. Decent short match.
Dysfunction was striking hard. Moore hit a shooting star press for the win.

6. Mike Quackenbush submitted Billy Roc in 11:52 and retained the
IWA-MS Light Heavyweight Title. Pretty solid match. Lots of arm drags and
arm drag counters. Exciting match, Quack submitted Roc with a weird move
where Roc was on upside down facing away from Quack and was in like an
upside down abdominal stretch.

7. Brent Albright submitted Tank in 5:06. Decent match. Mostly strong
style strikes, including Albright head butting Tank a lot. Albright got
the win when he locked an armbar (not the crowbar) on Tank and he
immediately tapped.

8. Joey Ryan pinned Brandon Thomaselli in 9:55. Decent match, but it
was underwhelming as I was expecting more from these two. One
entertaining spot was when they alternated hitting like 20 straight arm drags on
each other. Ryan won with a super kick.

9. Nate Webb pinned Drake Younger in 8:55. The result of this one sure
surprised me. Decent match with a big forearm exchange. Webb won with
a move that I can only describe as Webb had Younger in a half nelson
on the top rope and then turned into Jeff Jarrett’s Stroke in mid
air.

10. Claudio Castagnoli pinned Nigel McGuinness in 11:22. Very solid
match. Good back and forth action including a spot where they took turns
hitting like 25 straight European Uppercuts on each other. The finish
came when Nigel went for a rebound lariat and Claudio caught it and
gave Nigel a Ricola Bomb.

11. Scorpio pinned Chris Hero in 19:31. Very good match. Scorpio looked
to be in great shape and was very agile and athletic hitting lots of
back flip kicks like Low Ki might hit or like AJ Styles’ Pele kick.
Hero, as usual, was drawing tons of heel heat. Towards the end there were
some good near falls. Scorpio got the win with a perfectly landed 450
splash.

12. Chuck Taylor pinned Jimmy Jacobs in 26:01 to retain the IWA World
Heavyweight Title. Jacobs came to the ring in his blood-soaked Age of
the Fall attire. Really good match with lots of great near falls. This
match was a heated brawl that got jumpstarted as Jacobs did a suicide
dive onto Taylor as he was making his entrance. Lots of brawling and dives
from both guys, including a spot where Jacobs went for another dive
onto Taylor, but Taylor moved out of the way and Jacobs landed on the
guardrail. Late in the match, Taylor took off Jacobs’ knee brace and
worked over his knee. More good near falls. Taylor hit a low blow on
Jacobs and then hit a nice looking Omega Driver for the win. Very good
match.

Round 2 match ups for Night 2
Human Tornado vs. Nate Webb
Chuck Taylor vs. Scorpio
Josh Abercrombie vs. Devon Moore
Brent Albright vs. Joker
Davey Richards vs. Claudio Castagnoli
Joey Ryan vs. Mike Quackenbush
