Rasslin’ Rundown: Lazy Bum Edition

Brian Streleckis finally gets off his lazy rear to… sit down and write something! A whole bunch of indy news, including what happened at BOLA! Also, beware of Impact spoilers… or not.

When all was said and done, Dragon Gate star CIMA came out as the winner of Pro Wrestling Guerrilla’s Battle of Los Angeles two weekends ago. CIMA outlasted 23 other men, including Roderick Strong and El Generico in the three-way elimination Finals. CIMA, Strong, and Generico got into the Finals after respectively defeating PAC, Alex Shelley, and Nigel McGuinness in the Semi-Finals. By virtue of his big victory, CIMA is expected to challenge PWG World Champion Bryan Danielson (who was in attendance for Nights 1 and 3, sporting an eyepatch) in the near future. Based on the word of those in attendance (mainly Bryan Alvarez at F4W), Night 3 may end up being one of the best wrestling shows of the year, as well as claiming that Alex Shelley was the tournament’s MVP. The DVDs for this set of shows have been put on the fast track and are available to preorder at the PWG site, so we’ll see how these proclamations hold up. Gotta say, I’m quite excited to see these down the line.

Also, Human Tornado and his valet Candice LeRae finally split ways after LeRae cost Tornado his First Round match against CIMA, and - this is serious - Tornado put Candice in a Crossface after doing the throat-slashing gesture. Yikes! Candice is now aligned with Chris Hero, who ended up pinning Tornado on Night 3 in a 12-man tag.

Over in Ring of Honor, it was recently announced on their site that they’ll be holding a show in Las Vegas on October 19th. This comes on the heels of a previously announced show scheduled for the San Francisco Cow Palace on October 21st. In the more immediate future, ROH comes back to Detroit on Friday and Chicago Ridge on Saturday for their third PPV taping, the final (?) ROH appearance of Matt Sydal as he takes on Delirious one last time, and the presumed reveal of the Project 161 guys, who have been blatantly targeting the Briscoes recently and just may cost them the tag titles when they face Kevin Steen & El Generico in ROH’s first ever Ladder Match.

Elsewhere…
Adam Pearce is the brand new NWA World Heavyweight Champion. Yes, that Adam Pearce. Scrap Daddy, Repo Man Jr., etc. Taking the place of the injured Bryan Danielson, he defeated Brent Albright on the 2nd in Puerto Rico in a match that had a questionable finish and Danielson as a Special Enforcer referee. At least the title is no longer affiliated with…

TNA, where

(SPOILERS!)

viewers can expect to see Jim Mitchell’s new monster Judas Messiahs (as played by Ricky Banderas, the big dude with the waffle iron face in Wrestling Society X), more of Matt Morgan, and the man formerly known as Rikishi all show up on Impact over the next three weeks of TV.

Over in IWA Mid-South, Chuck Taylor defeated Brandon Thomaselli to win the IWA-MS World Light Heavyweight Title on August 31st, giving him both major singles titles, but then lost it to Mike Quackenbush on the 1st at an IWA Deep South event. Taylor (who recently changed his finisher’s name from the Omega Driver to the Awful Waffle, which is great!) was also added (along with a gaggle of other men) to the TPI, and is expected to defend the title throughout the tournament. Quackenbush is also included. I’ll have a big preview article about the TPI as soon as more matches are revealed.

I would have liked to talk about Spike Dudley making his CZW debut this past Saturday, except, according to F4W, he no-showed. Oh well.

God Bless America, everybody. I expect to be back later with a report of next week’s Chikara show.
