Alex Shelley says Goodbye

A favorite of mine for years, Alex Shelley says goodbye to ROH and PWG in style
On a personal note, when TNA last pulled talent from ROH in 2004, there was talk to company might be in trouble. I went to a show in Philly that was bumped from the Armory to a tent outside. I sat with friends openly talking in the sense of, “well, we had a nice little run for 2 years. That show broke out Generation Next in ROH, with Shelley as their leader. Brilliant character and I hope to see him back. Leave comments with your memories of Shelly if you feel compelled. Here’s his Goodbye blog

If you’re that big of a fan of his you should be able to spell his name right

Gene, I write you at least 4 times a week. Do I ever get through one e-mail w/o a bunch of spelling mistakes? Come on, I’m a writer moonlighting as an editor (- or, maybe I’m an editor in training:)

Shelley became a real favorite of mine when he formed Generation Next in 2004. Not only did he make for a good heel at a time when ROH could use one, I liked how he snuck some humor into his promos while still coming off as a credible threat.
Case in point: The first ROH show I ever attended was “Testing the Limit” from 8/7/04, headlined by the Bryan Danielson-Austin Aries 2/3 Falls Match that went about 75 minutes. Shelley was on the undercard, victorious in a Four Corner Survival over Jay Lethal, Ace Steel, and 2 Cold Scorpio, and cutting promos before and after the match. After the match, as Shelley was running down his opponents and future foes, Steel rolled up a ball of wrist tape and threw it at him, to which Shelley responded by nonchalantly saying, “Ouch.”
I’m going to miss seeing Shelley in ROH again, as I have for the past year, and I’m going to miss seeing the Motor City/Murder City (?) Machine Guns kicking ass together in PWG. A very slick team that I hope get more opportunities together in TNA.
